What is a Special Interest Group (SIG)?
Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are global communities within the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA®) that bring together professionals who share a common passion, challenge, or area of practice. Unlike geographic chapters, which are defined by location, SIGs are theme-based — they connect people across industries and regions to explore specialist topics in depth.
SIGs are communities of purpose. They are designed to foster deep learning, problem-solving, and knowledge sharing in areas that are vital to the future of business analysis. They are built by members, for members — and they exist to elevate the profession through collaborative expertise.
Why Do SIGs Exist?
The world of business analysis is growing more complex and more specialised. Analysts today are no longer confined to traditional domains like requirements gathering or stakeholder management — they are engaging with complex topics like cybersecurity, AI, sustainability, data ethics, and digital transformation.
To stay ahead of these shifts, IIBA established Special Interest Groups to:
-
Create focused communities where like-minded professionals can collaborate on emerging topics
-
Support professional development in high-impact, future-facing disciplines
-
Amplify the voice of business analysis in strategic conversations about innovation, risk, and value
-
Contribute to the global body of knowledge through articles, events, and shared experience
Each SIG explores a different area of practice and offers unique value to members who are curious, passionate, or working in that space.
Why You Should Get Involved
Whether you're new to a topic or a seasoned expert, SIGs are inclusive by design. They are built to reflect the diversity of thought, background, and experience within the business analysis profession. You don’t need to be a specialist to join — just curious, motivated, and ready to engage.
