Getting Started in Cyber is an introductory series from the IIBA CyberSIG for business analysts and change practitioners who want to build their cybersecurity fluency. Each session offers an informal and accessible introduction to one of the key areas that business analysts need to know about. These sessions are presented virtually and do not require any prior knowledge of cybersecurity.

Session One - The Threat Landscape
The main challenge that organisations face with cybersecurity is that the next attack can come from anywhere. Our adversaries operate in secret, using technologies and tactics to hide their identities and their intentions. They command a wide range of resources, operate with different motives, and often pursue different objectives. In cybersecurity, the environment in which we coexist with these bad actors is called the Threat Landscape, and that is our topic for today.
In this opening session of Getting Started in Cyber, host Ahila Puvitharan is joined by Chris Hails, Cyber Security Lead at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory. In this session, we will discuss the current state of the Threat Landscape that we are delivering changes in daily. You will learn about who the key players are, and how they operate. We will also explore how their actions can impact change teams and the organisations that they operate within. This session will also provide important context to the sessions that follow and will help you to understand the underlying justification for cybersecurity awareness in the business analysis profession.

Our guest speaker today is Chris Hails, Cyber Security Lead at The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (LinkedIn)
Chris has spent seventeen years in information and cyber security across consulting and in-house roles, working in transport, banking, the public sector at NCSC-NZ, and now life sciences. He has also led funded research into the behavioural qualities that pre-dispose internet users to socio-technical attacks.
